A Legacy Isn’t Left Behind, It’s Lived Out Loud on Purpose
I gave a talk recently about the Third Act: a time for reimagining life to be purposeful, fulfilled, and alive.
But here’s what struck me: the questions I asked them are the same ones we should all be asking, no matter what stage of life we’re in. Because whether you're 28, 42, or 67, there’s always a moment when the clock starts ticking a little louder, not with panic, but with possibility.
No one prepares us for this.
We’re taught how to start life. How to navigate school. How to get the job. Find the path. Hit the milestones.
But no one really teaches us what to do when the internal voice says:
“Is this it?”
or
“What’s next? And will it matter”?
We often wait for a crisis to make a change.
But what if instead, we chose to design what’s next, on purpose?
Your Life, By Design
The truth is, most people are living on autopilot.
We scroll when we wake up. We answer email before breakfast. We solve someone else’s problem before even starting our workday. (If that’s you, you’re not alone).
When you don’t design your life, the world designs it for you. And that’s a surefire way to wake up one day wondering where your time went.
Here are 3 questions to reclaim your time and purpose.
1. What do you actually want?
Not just the vague dream, but the specific, soul-aligned vision.
The truth is, most people can't answer that with much specificity. But it’s the first step in designing a life that’s fulfilling.
2. What does that actually look like in the best case scenario? And how would you get there?
This is your magic wand moment. If nothing was stopping you, what would life look like 2 years from now? What would you be doing more of? Less of?
3. What’s getting in the way?
Is it doubt? Distraction? Exhaustion? Old stories and fears?
We all have voices that derail us. The key is recognizing them, and writing a better story.
A Client Story
One of my clients had a meaningful job aligned with her values. But it still wasn't lighting her up. Through our work together, she discovered she wanted to work outside, in community, with purpose.
She changed careers and started a nonprofit that brings newcomers to Canada and long-time residents together through outdoor recreation and language learning. She’s been at it for 15 years.
That's living life on purpose! That’s what happens when you design what’s next, instead of just drifting toward it.
It's not about what you want to DO.
It's about who you want to BECOME.
Your LEGACY isn’t something you leave behind.
It’s something you LIVE OUT LOUD, ON PURPOSE.
Starting now. And that doesn't happen by chance. It's designed. Or else the world writes your story for you.
Are you ready to live your legacy? Let's talk.
