Every Team Has A Voice: What Does Yours Say?

I sat in a training this week to gain additional skills in team dynamics, relationships, and effectiveness.

There is a concept that in any relationship, including teams, that the relationship itself has a voice.

It’s not the voice of any one person. It's the voice that emerges from the relationship between people. It’s the idea that whenever two or more people interact, in this case, work together, there’s not just you and me. There’s also an “us.”

That “us” has its own tone, emotions, and patterns.  And if you learn to listen for it, it tells you a lot about what’s happening on your team.

Sometimes the team’s voice says, “We’ve got this.”

Other times it says, “We’re tired,” or “We don’t feel heard,” or even, “We don’t feel safe.”

The more you tune in, the more you realize: teams are living systems. They breathe. They change. They need attention and intention, just like individuals do.

Your coaching move this week:

  • Listen for your team’s voice.

  • What’s it saying these days?

  • What does it need: energy, clarity, connection, space to reset?

Most teams want to do their best work. They just need help tuning back into that shared voice, the one that reminds them why they’re here and what they’re capable of together.

If you’re curious what your team’s voice might be saying, and how to help it be more aligned, connected, and confident, I'm happy to have a conversation with you.
